What Is Dysport?

As one of the top providers of Dysport in Portland, our experienced aesthetic injectors at MD Beauty Lab deliver the natural-looking results you’re looking for. Dysport is an injectable cosmetic treatment that uses botulinum toxin type A (the same ingredient found in BOTOX Cosmetic) to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.

What can be treated with Dysport?

Dysport is FDA-approved to address moderate to severe frown lines and forehead lines caused by muscle activity in the procerus and corrugator muscles. It can also be used to address the following areas:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines around the lips
  • Platysma bands on the neck
  • Bunny lines across the top of the nose
  • Brow lift
  • Lipstick lines
  • Lip flip
  • "Orange peel" chin
  • Jawline definition

How Does Dysport Work?

Botulinum toxin works beneath the surface of the skin to block certain nerve signals that make muscles contract. Dysport smooths wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them when you frown or raise your eyebrows.

What to Expect During Your Dysport Treatment

At MD Beauty Lab, a standard Dysport session usually lasts between 15 to 30 minutes. Following a consultation with one of our injectors to talk about your goals, concerns, and medical background, they may capture some "before" photos to track your progress. You'll be ready to drive back home or to work right after your treatment.

Does Dysport Treatment Hurt?

Dysport injections are a quick and easy process. During the injections, you may feel a slight poke or pinch, but most of our patients report pain to be minimal to none at all. We can apply a topical numbing cream to ease discomfort if needles make you uneasy.

Is Downtime Needed after a Dysport Treatment?

No, you don’t need to plan for any downtime. You can jump right back into work and other regular activities. There are, however, a few things you should avoid immediately following your injections:

  • No strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours
  • Do not rub the injected areas as they heal

Common Questions

What can’t be treated with Dysport?

Although great for smoothing out surface-level wrinkles and preventing new ones, Dysport and BOTOX aren’t a solution for deep wrinkles such as the marionette lines (“smile lines”). That’s what fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Sculptra are designed for.

Unlike dermal fillers, toxins like Dysport and BOTOX aren’t a volume-restoring treatment. Injecting it into the under eyes wouldn’t fill in lost volume or improve dark circles, and using it in the undereye area can also lead to risks such as your lower eyelids sagging or issues with blinking.

Will I look “frozen”?

No, your face will still move and there won’t be any change to your everyday expressions like smiling, laughing, or frowning. The only difference is that the wrinkles associated with these expressions are far less noticeable. The “frozen” look happens when too much product is injected, which doesn’t happen when you choose experienced aesthetic injectors like ours at MD Beauty Lab.

How soon will I see results after Dysport treatment?

Most people see the effects of Dysport treatment within 2-3 days, but it can sometimes take up to two weeks for final results to appear. Before it starts working its muscle relaxing effects, it has to bind itself to nerve cell receptors, and this is a process that can take some time.

How long does Dysport last?

On average, the effects of Dysport treatment last for about three to four months. We recommend patients visit our office for regular maintenance treatments to keep their skin smooth. Though maintenance treatments are required to maintain the best results, it’s not uncommon to notice that you need it less often as your muscles become accustomed to being in a more relaxed state.

Is Dysport safe?

Yes, Dysport is generally a very safe treatment, especially when it’s performed by qualified professionals like our aesthetic injectors at MD Beauty Lab. We work closely with the plastic surgeons of Portland Plastic Surgery Group to ensure your treatment process is smooth and safe.
